Patchwork Lap Quilting
Available spots
Service Description
Become a part of the stitching community and make your first patchwork quilt from start to finish with instructor Katie Furukawa Bonifacio of Old River Design Co! We'll begin with preparing our fabrics, then move to cutting fabric and sewing them together with a sewing machine to make the quilt top. Katie will share a strip piecing technique to help the quilt top go together faster, thanks to the magic of rotary cutters. Once the top is finished, we'll baste the top and backing to a layer of batting and then machine quilt them together to keep everything secure. Next comes adding the binding to finish off the edges. Lastly, we'll attach a label to our quilts to document who made it and for what reason! This class is geared towards beginners; the only thing you need to know how to do is sew a straight line. The class is spaced out over six sessions to allow enough time to complete all steps of the quilt making process. Fabric requirements: (6) pieces of cotton woven fabric that are at least 6" long by 42" wide - OR - 1 yard of cotton woven fabric that is at least 42" wide - AND - 3 yards of cotton woven fabric for the backing and binding of your quilt. Participants may bring their own fabric prints, binding, and backing, but are also encouraged to "shop" from our selection of fabrics that have been donated to Pedal & Press at our drop-in fabric selection sessions ahead of time. Upon registration, a fabric selection resource guide will be e-mailed to you. **Optional (free) drop-in fabric selection session details** Date: Tues, September 17th Time: 1pm - 4pm Location: 888 Innes Avenue All other materials and tools, such as sewing machines and batting for the quilt, are included in your registration fee.
